2016 Neighborhood Food Drive

Thanks to everyone for your support of this year’s Food Drive — it was a huge SUCCESS!       On Tuesday evening, Sept. 13th, our church’s middle school group went door-to-door to inform neighbors of the upcoming food drive, reminding everyone to leave their food bags on their porches on Sunday morning, Sept. 18th.  Then, on Sunday morning, the grade school-aged children, along with family/friends, went back through the neighborhood to pick up the bags.  It was very rewarding to find bags put out on almost all of the porches that had been visited on the previous Tuesday!   The food items were brought back to church, and on Monday morning a van from Mainspring came to pick up all of the food.  The initial report is that we collected over 700 POUNDS of food on this year’s Food Drive.  This will be a big help in alleviating the need for food by many in our community who use the services of Mainspring.   (Mainspring is the new name for the organization — formerly called FISH — on SE Hawthorne Blvd. at 13th, which serves individuals and families who face food insecurity).  Thanks to all who made this year’s drive so successful!!
